The Plastic Bottle Cutter

Nowadays, it is not so much about recycling anymore, but about trying our best to up-cycle the products we want to get rid of. The amount of plastic waste that is thrown out on a daily basis is excessive and is negatively impacting our environment. What if there could be a smarter and better way to recycle our plastic bottles?

TriMech is inspired by inventors creating products that have a positive impact on our planet. A French-based start-up has created a smart way to transform plastic bottles into resistant ropes in a few seconds. This European consumer product development and original invention is called the Plastic Bottle Cutter and is currently making noise in the recycling industry and hopefully soon in our homes.

An Environmentally-friendly Consumer Product Development

With no electronics and no software, the eco-friendly and resistant device consists only of a wooden handle with an embedded razor blade and a cutting guide. To use the Plastic Bottle Cutter, users need to cut the bottom of their empty plastic bottle and then attach the device to the body of the bottle.  The tool slices the plastic bottle into a long and thin strand. The plastic strand is flexible and solid enough to be used as a rope.

Plastic ropes can be used for many purposes: DIY, gardening, art, or even car towing!  This new invention works with any type of plastic bottles, although rigid and thick bottles have to be warmed up (for example over the stove) before proceeding to cut them and use the device. With a very simple design, this consumer product development fits in the pocket or in any kitchen’s drawer. User experience is optimized for this product as the device is quite intuitive and easy to use.

The Plastic Bottle Cutter has received a lot support on their crowdfunding campaign. So far, they have exceeded their Kickstarter Campaign by an impressive 2749%. The eco-friendly product design will be ready for distribution by June 2016.

Recycling can be creative too. At TriMech we support inventions that make it possible for everyone to get involved in up-cycling at home. We see a lot of product designs developed through technology and computers, however the simplest inventions can be created with just a piece of wood and a razor blade and still make a great impact on people’s lives.
